Perhaps one of the greatest RPG series of all time, the Bard's Tale games combined great graphics with great puzzles and highly strategic combat.  These games were instant classics.  I only wish they hadn't stopped at number three.  Dozens of other excellent games have been published though EA both now and in the past, and they were famous for releasing most of their games in the thin folio type packaging seen in most of the images below, resulting in less wasted shelf space.  Of the other games listed below, Archon, and M.U.L.E. are worth special note.  I also absolutely loved Demon Stalkers.

Archon turned the game of chess into an exciting strategic combat game which is as enjoyable today as it was 15 years ago.  Magic spells added an extra level of strategy to this game.  More recently, Archon Ultra, an updated 3D version of the game was released, but somehow lacked the original's charm.

Similarly, M.U.L.E., an economic simulation thought by some to be THE greatest multiplayer game ever made (anyone out there working on TCP/IP M.U.L.E.???), has an amazing timeless quality to it.  Despite its blocky, 4- or 16-color low resolution graphics, and lack of sound effects other than the odd beep or two, the minute you start playing it, you hardly even notice.  And who can forget that catchy intro tune and the M.U.L.E. struts onto the screen.
